Testbeds for Reliable Smart City Machine-to-Machine Communication for Smart Cities (TRESCIMO) hosted a session entitled “Smart and Green solutions advancement for Smart Cities in Europe and Africa – a Future Internet Approach” at the dissemination event. In this session, the use of FIRE enabled M2M/IoT Smart Infrastructures to provide a reliable and standards compliant software stack as a service for the realisation of South African and European Smart City Services was highlighted through the use of live demonstrations. These demonstrations focused on using combined technology from Fraunhofer FOKUS (Germany), UCT (South Africa), TUB (Germany), CSIR (South Africa), I2CAT (Spain), Eskom (South Africa) and ABS (Israel) to provide energy, environment and education related services.
