Welcome to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in BroadBand Networks. We are established in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cape Town (UCT) since March 1997.

The Centre of Excellence in Broadband Networks and Applications at the University of Cape Town is an interdiscplinary Centre for research in advanced networking systems with an emphasis on industry relevance. The collaboration among research groups in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Computer Science takes place across the University with little regard to organizational boundaries.

The mission of the Centre is to serve postgraduate students by imparting to them an understanding of broadband wired and wireless networks and to serve industry by creating and disseminating knowledge of advanced heterogeneous networks through research and technology transfer.

A tighter formulation of a common vision on future research directions in the inter-working of heterogeneous networks between academia and industry is essential to promote research in the area of ALL-IP mobile networks (AIPN).

The programme is sponsored by Telkom SA, Nokia Siemens Networks, TeleSciences, the National Research Foundation and the Department of Trade and Industry. The Centre offers postgraduate research, training, and is an information resource centre for telecommunications in Southern Africa.
