Lusani Mamushiane received one of the three best paper awards at the 21^st Southern African Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference (SATNAC), which was held from 2 - 5 September 2018, at Arabella, Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa.The paper, titled "Optimum Placement of SDN Controllers in African Backbones: SANREN and ZAMREN as a Case Study", proposed an algorithm for the optimal placement of controllers in order to improve network performance. Lusani Mamushiane co-authored the paper with her supervisor Dr. Joyce Mwangama of the Communication Research Group (CRG), Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Cape Town and Dr. and Albert A. Lysko (CSIR).
